VERONICA BALL: William Baker, William F., Edward, Bartholomew; William, Sr. The first born of Doctor William Baker Ball and his second wife Sarah Veronica Everett, was a daughter named Veronica, born 24 April 1845/6 in Perry, Houston County, Georgia. The family moved to Sunflower County, Mississippi very soon after her birth. Her father was a planter as well as a physician. He had filed on tracts of land in both Sunflower County and Carroll County.
They are enumerated on the 1850 census of Sunflower, but soon moved to Carroll County. In 1854 Veronica’s father died. Her world was turned upside down. At age nine she just did not understand all that was going on. They, her mother and her brothers and sisters, moved into the house with her mother’s relatives, and that was a big change, and all kinds of doubts and fears raced through her young mind. But she survived. In 1860, she and her mother and brother, Few, and sister, Ellanora, were still living in the home of relatives. She was fifteen years of age.
On 25 October 1865, at age twenty, Veronica married Samuel E. Ebbert in Carroll County. The occupation, religion, education, military service, etc. of Samuel Ebbert is not known, but he and his wife did a lot of moving around and having children. On 1 January 1866, a daughter, Mattie, was born in Carroll County; on 29 November 1868, Sarah Elizabeth was born in Carroll County; on 5 December 1870, Samuel Edward was born in Beauregard, a town in either Louisiana or Mississippi; on 30 May 1873, Alma was born in Martinsville, Arkansas; 27 April 1875, Veronica was born in St. Louis, Missouri; 23 October 1877, William was born in St. Louis, Missouri; 29 February 1880, Mary was born in St. Louis, Missouri; and on 20 January 1882, Isaac was born in St. Louis, Missouri.
Veronica Ball Ebbert died 14 December 1935 in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The place of her burial is not known.1
