EDWARD BALL II: Edward I, William Robert, Sampson, Bartholomew; William, Jr. Edward Ball II was born in March of 1857, in Randolph County, Georgia and lived there until young adulthood. After the Civil War, about 1875, with her husband dead and two of her four children having died, Harriet (King) Ball sold their farm and, with her daughter, Katie, moved to Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, near Monroe, where Edward was employed as the manager of a plantation. Sometime after 1885, Edward quit farming and moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he went to work for the Consolidated Ice and Bottling Company. He soon became the manager and opened another plant in Monroe and was manager of that one also. He married Miss Olivette Lanier of Shreveport, date of marriage unknown, and they had two children: Caroline Ball, who married Mr. C. L. Wilkerson, and they removed to Los Angeles, California; Edward Ball III, who died unmarried at age 19. Edward Ball II died in Shreveport prior to 1895, a young man of about 38 years old. His widow, who had married Edward’s first cousin, David Johnston, in 1895, died in Monroe in 1899 at age 36. The date and place of the death and burial of Harriet King Ball and her daughter Katie is unknown. Thus ends, as far as is known to date, the direct male descent from Sampson Ball, born 1750, in old Craven County, South Carolina. There are three Ball families living in Cuthbert, Randolph County today. Edward Ball, RFD Cuthbert, Georgia, F. P. Ball, RFD Cuthbert, Georgia, and Robert Ball, RFD, Rt. 4, Cuthbert, Georgia. These people say they are unable to trace their ancestry, but they say their family has been living there for four or five generations, perhaps longer.
