AMANDA MELVINA BALL: William F, Edward, Bartholomew; William, Sr. Amanda Melvina Ball, fourth living child of William F. Ball and Elizabeth Gray, was born 16 July 1818, in Baldwin County, Georgia.1 Amanda grew to womanhood in Baldwin County and was afforded every advantage a young lady of that day desired. Amanda married 22 January 1836, William Lackey, a farmer, who was born 4 October 1807. They lived for ten years in Georgia, then moved to Minden, Webster Parish, Louisiana. From there they moved to Caldwell County, Texas. Amanda and William had nine daughters and three sons. Two of the daughters were named Harriet Melvina Lackey and Mahala Lackey. Amanda Melvina Ball Lackey died 6 August 1886 in Caldwell County, Texas. William Lackey died 10 February 1895 in Caldwell County, Texas.2 Several descendants of Amanda and William Lackey have joined the DAR in Texas under Edward Ball, Revolutionary War Soldier, who fought and died in Georgia. Edward Ball was Amanda Ball Lackey’s grandfather. Amanda’s father, William Ball, was a son of Edward Ball and wife Rebecca Baker Jones, a widow whom Edward Ball married in 1772 in Midway, Liberty County, Georgia. Edward served as a member of the Provincial Congress from St. Johns Parish, Liberty County in 1775, and as a Lieutenant in Captain John Bacon’s Company of Riflemen in 1777.
