WILLIAM MOSES BALL: James GM, William F., Edward, Bartholomew; William, Sr. William Moses Ball, the third child and son of James Gray Madison Ball and wife Nancy Boynton was born 1 September 1835 in Houston County, Georgia. The family moved to Stewart County, Georgia, about 1838 where he went to school and grew into adulthood. The extent of Williams’ education is unknown. His occupation may have been that of a farmer. He lived in Webster County, Georgia all of his married life. His children were all born and raised there. He was a Confederate soldier and was a member of Company K, 17th Georgia Regiment; but it is not known if the 17th Regiment was Riflemen or Artillery, or what. The dates and places of his enlistment and discharge are unknown. William married first Lucinda Boyd 1-6-1860, in Webster County. They had four children. Three of them died as infants and the fourth died a teenager. Lucinda died in 1866 and is buried in the Macedonia Baptist Church Yard Cemetery in Preston, Webster County, Georgia; and the 13th December of that same year, William married Elizabeth Montgomery Boyd, widowed sister-in-law of Lucinda. William and Elizabeth’s children were: Sarah Elizabeth Ball, born 12 April 1868 in Webster County, died 25 January 1939, married in 1890, James Henry Cole. Place of burial unknown. William Walter Ball, born 20 January 1870, in Webster County; died 17 September 1875, and buried in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery. August Valentine Ball, born 18 May 1871, in Webster County; died in 1950. Place of burial unknown. Anna George Ball, born 13 April 1873, in Webster County; died 25 July 1956, buried in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Preston, Georgia; married in 1894 John G. Spann. Ella Gertrude Ball, born 1874, in Webster County; died 10 January 1919, place of burial not known; married in 1895 George T. Cole. Jesse Homer Ball, born 17 November 1875, Webster County. Lula Caroling Ball, born 16 November 1877, in Webster County; died 18 April 1918, buried in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Preston, Georgia; married in 1895 George E. Sapp. Willis Franklin Ball, born 12 December 1879, Webster County; died 6 February 1921, and buried in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery in Preston, Georgia; married in 1903 Carrie Everett.178
