FEW BALL: William Baker, William F., Edward, Bartholomew; William, Sr. Few Ball was born 20 September 1847/8 in Carroll County, Mississippi. He was the son of Doctor William Baker Ball and wife Sarah Veronica Everett. Few was seven years old when his father died in 1854. He lost his father at a time in a young boy’s life just as he is discovering his father. It must have been a great blow to him. Nothing more is known of Few until the Civil War. He volunteered first in the Vaiden Artillery, Bain’s Company E. He enlisted from the town of Vaiden in Carroll County.
When his enlistment was up, he came home, but not for long. He soon was volunteering again, this time in the Mississippi First Cavalry Regiment, Henderson’s Company A. When he came home this time, the war was over. The scant information found in the Clayton Genealogical Library in Houston, Texas, does not give any dates. The 1870 census of Carroll County shows Few as single, 23 years of age, and living at home with his mother and younger sister, Ellanora. His occupation is that of farmer.
The date and place of Few’s marriage is unknown, but the girl he married, Anna Payne Gibbs, was born 22 July 1850 in Grenada, the county seat of Grenada County, Mississippi. Few and Anna’s two children were born in Grenada; Julius Few Ball, born 3 March 1875, and William Ballard Ball, born 22 August 1876. Few Ball became a Methodist minister, and continued in the ministry until his death 20 June 1887. He was buried in Clay County, Arkansas. His wife Anna returned to Mississippi with her two young children and raised them there. The date and place of her death is unknown.
William Ballard Ball, born 22 August 1876 in Grenada, Mississippi; married Minnie Lee White, born 18 September 1877 in Kemper County, Mississippi. By Minnie Lee White, William Ballard Ball had two children; Helen Payne Ball, born 9 July 1901 in Jackson, Mississippi; and Few White Ball, born 13 October 1902 in Meridian, Mississippi. Minnie Lee White Ball died 29 April 1903. William Ballard Ball married second, Beatrice Grisham, born 13 March 1884, in Adams County, Mississippi. They had three children; William Ballard Ball, Jr., born 10 July 1911 in Jackson; Beatrice Grisham Ball, born 13 June 1914 in Yazoo County. He was a farmer all of his life.
Helen Payne Ball, born 9 July 1901 in Jackson, Mississippi; married Walter Riley Lee, born 25 December 1894, in Calhoun County, Mississippi. They had one child; Walter Riley Lee, Jr., born 15 May 1927 in Jackson, Mississippi. Walter Riley Lee, St., died 29 January 1965. He was a politician and was a senator (?) representative? in the House of Representatives, Washington, D.C. Mrs. Walter Riley Lee supplied this writer with all the family history and information on the children and descendants of Doctor William Baker Ball and his two wives in 1972 1.149
