WILLIAM HINES BALL: William Baker, William F., Edward, Bartholomew; William, Sr. William Hines Ball, second child of Dr. William Baker Ball and wife Mary M. Hines, was born 14 March 1841, in Perry, Houston County, Georgia. The family moved to Sunflower County, Mississippi, in 1847 when he was six years old. He is listed in the 1850 census of Sunflower County as being 12 years old. The family had moved to Carroll County by 1854, when his father died. William Hines Ball married Jane Cole about 1858. Nothing further is known of Jane Cole’s family. They continued to live in the community of Black Hawk. William Ball was a farmer. The 1860 census of Carroll county, page 3, dwelling 19, house 19, Post Office, Black Hawk, shows William Hines Ball to be 21 years of age, born in Georgia; Jane to be 20 years of age, born in Alabama; son William Ball 7 months old, born in Mississippi. The 1870 census of Carroll County, Mississippi, page 29, dwelling 215, family 215, Post Office Black Hawk, shows William Hines to be 31 years of age, total estate value $400, born in Georgia; Jane, 30 years of age, born in Alabama; William, 10 years of age, born in Mississippi; Mary, age 6, born in Mississippi; Richard, age 4, born in Mississippi;, Samuel, age 2, born in Mississippi. The William Hines Ball family has not been researched further.64
